Question for anyone with American Girl Doll knowledge

I have an American Girl doll that was given to me by a teenage girl. I was told this doll was Samantha; however, this is like no Samantha doll I have ever seen. She has the long brown hair, however, it is thick and straight like the today doll?..not curly like the typical Samantha doll. She also has blue eyes, not brown. At this point I would simply assume that the girl I received her from was mistaken and that this doll is an American Girl "Today" Doll; however, the body has a 1986 tag sewn on the side. She also came in Samantha?s original clothes with the early German tag dated 1986. Is it possible that this blue-eyed straight haired doll is indeed Samantha?? Were there any early Samantha?s produced like this?? I know that the American Girl Today dolls were introduced in the 90?s, so I?m not sure how this doll could be a Today doll; however she is like no other Samantha doll I have seen before. I am truly hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on this for me. I would be grateful! Thanks!!

I would guess that it is an AGOT. If you could post a picture, we would all gladly give you our best knowledge!

Maybe it's MOLLY?
The earlier Mollys had almost blue eyes and long straight or slightly wavy brown hair.

Molly was introduced the same time as Samantha and it's very probable a Molly might have that tag.

My guess would be Molly. Does she have a section of short hair in the back where it'd be parted for the braids?

I have an AGOT doll, first issue 1995, blond hair grey eyes.
Body tag says, Germany 1986, This date is not the manufacturing date buy a copyright date, I beleive. I also have a current doll with the numbers 2008.

A lot of tags say 1986 because that is when the company started, not when the actual doll was made. It is confusing, I know. My guess is that she is either a molly or AGOT, and she was clothed in Samantha's dress. Samantha has never had blue or grey eyes- she has always had brown ones. Her hair has always been at least a little wavy and slightly layered (i am pretty sure). Hope this helps!

THANK YOU to everyone for your hospitality... what a great board! I have attempted time and time again to ad a photo of this AG doll to my post with no success. I am using the same e-mail function on my digital camera that works when downloading photos to ebay; however, when attempting to ad to my profile I continually get an error message stating that the photo file is too large.
